General:
Where will the positions be located?
Please use the Locations, Working Patterns and Salary page to identify the exact locations of the vacancies available.
What is the selection process?
- Candidates who are successful at the initial application stage are asked to complete an online questionnaire.
- If you pass the questionnaire you’ll be invited to take part in a telephone interview.
- If you're successful at your telephone interview, you’ll be invited to attend an Experience Day at the location you applied to.
- Offers of employment to successful applicants will be issued shortly after.
We will make reasonable adjustments for all candidates with disabilities. Please ensure you discuss your requirements in advance by telephoning HSBC HR on 01923 688 866 or Text phone 0800 587 0613.
What checks will be undertaken if I am successful for a role?
As part of your application, we will make several background checks to assess your suitability. Depending on the role you have applied for, we will request references to cover all employment, educational or vocational work over the last 3 or 5 years. We will also conduct a credit reference check, to ensure that you meet the opening requirements for an HSBC account. An identification check and your Right to work in the UK will be confirmed through sight of either your passport or full driving licence, a copy of which would have been taken at the time of your interview or assessment centre.
I have a criminal record - will this stop me working for HSBC?
As we process your application, we will need to see a Criminal Records Disclosure report for you. Having a criminal record will not necessarily mean that you will not get the job. This will depend on the nature of the position you are applying for, together with the circumstances and the background of any offences.

How can I apply?
Applications should be made via the online application form that can be found in the Apply section of this website. Here you’ll find all the detailed information and guidance for filling out the application form, and the subsequent stages of the recruitment process, you’re looking for.
If you are unable to apply online, please contact HSBC on 01923 688 866 or Text phone 0800 587 0613 to discuss your particular requirements.
When can I apply?
Once you have identified the location you wish to work in, you may apply immediately. The online application form is available on this website. It’s advisable to apply as early as you can to avoid any delay to your application.
Can I apply to more than one of the advertised roles with HSBC?
There is no need because as we take you through the recruitment process, we'll continuously assess your skills and abilities so we can offer you the role that's most suitable for you. Answer is yes as there may be different roles and different processes.
I've worked for HSBC before - can I reapply?
Provided you have not been dismissed from the bank's service under disciplinary proceedings or been made redundant within the last 36 months, you may reapply.
I have applied before - can I reapply?
If you’ve applied for the same position in the last six months then we regret to inform you that we are unable to consider another application. You can however apply for a different position, if you think your skills and experience are appropriate.
When could I start?
There are numerous start dates throughout the year. Upon joining the bank, you'll join an induction programme that will familiarise you with HSBC, our culture and values together with core product, systems and procedural knowledge. You'll then receive ongoing training and support throughout your career.
What are my expected working hours?
We have a range of full and part time working patterns depending upon the location and role. These working patterns may include evenings, weekends, public and Bank holidays. The specific hours of work will be flexible depending upon operational requirements. During your final interview we can answer this question in more detail and accuracy.
Do I have to be eligible to work in the UK to apply?
You'll need to be eligible to work in the UK to apply, although for some management vacancies we may be able to apply for a work permit for applicants to these roles. This is however, dependent upon whether the role is "unfilled" after considering all other applicants who are currently eligible to work in the UK. Please note therefore there will be a delay in dealing with your application and it could still be declined.
What do I do if I want to apply for an HSBC role based abroad, e.g. HSBC India?
You should visit www.hsbc.com and in the "Countries and Other HSBC Services" section choose the country you are interested in working in. This will take you to the home page for HSBC in that country, and each one has its own careers section.
What are the salary and benefits?
As you would expect from an international employer, we pay attention to the needs of our people. Our total reward package is very competitive, offering a wide range of both financial and non-financial benefits.
The following outlines the various elements of our benefit package:
Salary
Our salaries are regularly reviewed within the market to ensure that they are competitive and take into account the external marketplace and the skills and experiences of the individual. We also recognise that there are differences in pay rates in some parts of the UK and our salaries reflect these regional differences.
Bonus arrangement
The bank offers an individual uncapped bonus scheme.
Location allowance
For some locations we also pay a monthly large town allowance. This is non-pensionable and is dependent on location. If applicable, this will be quoted next to the salary for the role you are considering. Total salary - as quoted on the location page - includes salary and large town allowance.
Holidays
25 days, plus public and Bank holidays. If you're applying for a part time position elsewhere this entitlement is pro-rata.
Defined contribution pension scheme
Upon joining us, you may decide to join the HSBC's defined contribution pension scheme. Full details will be provided on request.
Employee Share Schemes
HSBC offers a number of share schemes from Save As You Earn through to monthly Share Ownership plans.
Other benefits
As one of the world's leading financial organisations, we offer a range of financial products and services at discounted rates for our employees.

The encoded number that appeared on your screen is an indication that your test scores have not registered onto the system that we use. To enable us to access your scores, please log back into the SHL system with your username and password.
Click on the link for the test in question. The next page will confirm that although the test has been completed, we are yet to receive the results. Interviews:
How do I ensure my telephone interview runs smoothly?
Where possible, please provide a landline phone number rather than a mobile number for the telephone interview. Please be aware that the telephone interview is not the most appropriate time to ask questions about HSBC or specific roles, as the interviewers are not members of HSBC staff. The best time to ask for information about HSBC will be at the face to face interview during the assessment centre. Please allow up to 45 minutes for the interview, which will be recorded for quality purposes.
I need to change my interview date, is that possible?
Ideally, we would like you to stay with the date we have arranged for you. If you really can’t make this date, please contact the assessment centre co-ordinator to discuss your particular requirements. Their contact details will be supplied at the time of arranging the original assessment centre dates.
When will I be sent my contract and joining details?
All formal contracts and information packs are sent out shortly after the job offers have been made.
