What's involved in the application process?

The process is broken into a number of different stages:

1) Initial questions
You'll be asked a series of initial questions (such as your eligibility to work in the UK) that you must be able to answer in order to proceed to the next stage. These should only take you a very short time to complete.

2) Online application form
Don't rush this stage - allow yourself plenty of time to complete the form and remember to prepare as fully as possible. It's a good idea to take a look at the form before sitting down to fill it in so that you can:
• Make sure you have all the information you need close at hand
• Ensure that you're clear about what it is that we're looking for and what you think you can bring to the role.

3) Job match profile
In some circumstances the job match profile may need to be completed online. Typically you’ll receive instructions on how to undertake this questionnaire within 48 hours from your initial submission of the application.

4) Telephone interview
A 15 to 20 minute telephone interview based on key skills for the role you have applied for. You’ll be able to book a time that is most convenient for yourself to ensure you are free from distractions. The interview will look at your motivations for the role together with your communication skills.

5) Credit check
Once your application form has been received,a credit check will be undertaken. This check will include CCJs, bankruptcy and delinquent debts registered (e.g. defaulted on payments to a loan which has not been paid in full). Full details on this are contained within the application form.

6) Final interview
The final stage of the process is a face to face interview or selection centre. Typically, this appointment will last for no longer than two hours.

The interview will again focus on your skills and experiences and how they match with our requirements. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about the role and HSBC.

You’ll be advised of our decision within seven days after the assessment centre. If you are successful, you’ll then be invited to join an initial induction course that will tell you all you need to know for a career with HSBC.

7) Criminal Record Search
As we process your application, we will need to see a Criminal Records Disclosure report for you, to see if you have a criminal record. Having a criminal record will not necessarily mean that you will not get the job. This will depend on the nature of the position you are applying for, together with the circumstances and the background of any offences.

8) Referencing
All our offers will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment references. Whilst we’re preparing your contract and terms and conditions of employment, we’ll begin obtaining references.
